2010-2011 ACI Foundation Fellowships
Scholarship Deadline: October 30, 2009
Fellowships are offered to high-potential undergraduate and graduate students whose studies relate to concrete and are identified by ACI-Member Faculty. The Student Fellowship can have a nominal term of up to two academic years, renewed annually, and may extend through graduate study. Annual renewal will be subject to renomination and reapplication. These awards are granted based on the availability of contributions received.
ACI Foundation Fellowship Application Details
The ACI Foundation Fellowship application process can be described by the following sequence of events:
1. Faculty member/ACI member nominates student for program
2. Scholarship Coordinator emails nominated student the fellowship application
3. Nominee submits all application materials to the ACI Foundation by deadline
4. Application materials are sent to and reviewed by the ACI Foundation’s Scholarship Council
5. ACI Foundation’s Scholarship Council selects finalists
6. ACI Foundation’s Scholarship Council interviews finalists at convention
7. ACI Foundation Board awards Student Fellowships
For the 2010-2011 academic year, eight Fellowships will be available. Fellowship recipients will receive the following:
- $7,000 ($10,000 for the Charles Pankow Foundation ACI Student Fellowship) educational stipend for tuition, residence, books, and materials
- Appropriate certificates, recognition, and publicity
- Paid travel expenses and attendance fees to two ACI conventions*
- Assignment to an industry mentor
- A summer internship, if desired** (internship is required to receive the ACI Baker Student Fellowship, ACI Elmer Baker Student Fellowship, Cagley ACI Student Fellowship, and Charles Pankow Foundation ACI Student Fellowship)
Application Requirements and Instructions
The following criteria apply to all fellowship applicants. The complete application requirements and directions can be found on the application itself.
1. All ACI Foundation Fellowship applicants must be nominated by a faculty member who is also an ACI member before the student is able to receive an official application. Faculty members: To nominate a student, send an email to scholarships@concrete.org with your ACI member number, and the name, university, and email address of the student you wish to nominate.
2. The student must be considered a full-time undergraduate or graduate student as defined by the college or university during the award year. Applications will be accepted from anywhere in the world but study must take place in the United States or Canada during the award year.
3. All applicants must be proficient in the English language. If English is not your native language, a written statement must be attached to the application attesting to this proficiency.
4. The application package (see below for details) should be emailed to scholarships(AT)concrete.org. The application, resume and essay should be sent together in one e-mail package. Hard copies of applications, resumes, and essays will not be accepted. Please be sure that your name is on every piece of material submitted. ACI staff does not contact applicants upon receipt of their application materials or contact applicants if materials are missing from submittals.
Application Deadline: The deadline for all application materials is 11:59 p.m. EST on October 30, 2009.
Recipient Selection Process Requirements
Finalists chosen for consideration of ACI Foundation Fellowships must agree to attend Sunday of the Spring 2010 ACI Convention to be interviewed. Travel/hotel arrangements will be made through and paid for by the ACI Foundation. Each finalist will be advanced nominal funds for expected travel-related expenses. Fellowship recipients will be notified of their awards after the Annual ACI Convention held each spring.
