Walmart – Associate Scholarship 2010
Introduction: At the Walmart Foundation, we believe that a good education creates opportunities that lead to a better life. To help offset rising college tuition costs, we recently awarded more than $8 million in academic scholarships to help students afford higher education in the 2009-2010 school year.
These scholarships are especially important in a year when every dollar counts. According to the National Association of College and University Business Officers, U.S. colleges expect 20 percent more requests for financial aid, while funding for such assistance has fallen due to shrinking endowments and state budget cutbacks.
Awards: A $3,000 college scholarship available to Walmart associates or dependents of associates who are graduating seniors with at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA and a demonstrated financial need.
Eligibility: Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident of the United States.
- Must be actively employed with Walmart Stores, Inc. OR the dependent of an actively employed Associate with Walmart Stores, Inc. for at least six consecutive months as of March 29, 2010.
- Must be a high school senior graduating between August 1, 2009 and July 31, 2010. Home school diplomas and GED equivalency certificates are eligible with the same completion date requirement.
- Must have a cumulative high school grade point average (GPA) of at least 2.5 on a 4-point scale.
- Must plan to enroll for fall 2010 as a freshman at a two-year or four-year college or university that is located in the U.S. and is accredited and listed on the official website of the U.S. Department of Education (http://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx). Military academies are not approved institutions.
- Must have financial need and be able to demonstrate the need with required documents.
Application Deadline: January 29, 2010
Application Procedure: Applications must be submitted online by 5:00 p.m., central time, January 29, 2010. All supporting documents must be postmarked by January 29, 2010, and received at the Iowa City address provided in the application checklist (http://www.act.org/walmart/assoc/files/Checklist.pdf).
