Australian School of Business at UNSW & China Scholarships Council Scholarships 2010 for Chinese Students in Australia
Summary:
The Australian School of Business at UNSW in collaboration with the China Scholarship Council is offering up to 12 scholarships each year to outstanding students from Chinese universities.
The PhD Program:
Candidates complete a 3 year program at UNSW consisting of coursework and a thesis and graduate with a UNSW PhD degree. It is open for application by students who are in the final year of a research masters program, or have completed a research masters program at or have been admitted to a nominated Chinese University’s Doctoral program at the time of application.
We particularly welcome nominations from the following universities:
* Chongqing University
* Fudan University
* Huazhong University of Science and Technology
* Nanjing University
* Peking University
* Renmin University
* Shanghai JiaoTong University
* Shanghai University of Finance and Economics
* Tianjin University
* Tsinghua University
* Wuhan University
* Xiamen University
* Zhejiang University
Students enrolling in this 3 year program will complete up to 2 semesters of coursework preparation and a thesis proposal plus submit a thesis of around 80,000 words which will be examined by 3 examiners. Students will undertake the entire program at UNSW in one of the following disciplines:
* Accounting
* Actuarial Studies
* Banking and Finance
* Business Law and Taxation
* Economics
* Marketing
* Organisation and Management
* Information Systems, Technology and Management
* Strategy and Entrepreneurship
Upon successful completion of the program, the student will graduate with a UNSW PhD degree.
Scholarship funding:
Successful applicants will be awarded a scholarship for study commencing in either July 2010 or March 2011. The scholarships will provide:
* the cost of full tuition fees for 3 years
* visa application fees (the scholarship covers e-visa charges where the student applies for a visa for July admission for March entry the scholarship covers the cost of a standard visa application)
* overseas student health cover and return economy airfares
* a CSC living allowance for 3 years and
* a supplementary living allowance of $8000 p.a. funded by the Australian School of Business
Key Dates:
- UNSW applications open: June 2009
- UNSW applications close 25 January 2010
- To apply for CSC funding, candiates must have a UNSW offer letter.
- Application close with CSC on 20 March
- CSC applications close: 20 March 2010
- Scholarship outcomes announced: May 2010
- Successful applicants commence: July 2010 or May 2011
Applicants must complete UNSW and CSC application procedures.
UNSW application procedures:
Applicants must first register their interest in applying for admission by emailing the Australian School of Business Research Office and providing the following information:
1. The discipline/s in which you are interested.
2. Your resume/curriculum vitae
3. Your research topic. Please attach a well-developed research proposal which should demonstrate:
- clear aims and objectives
- issues you would like to explore (why it is important and interesting)
- the background literature supporting your project
- the way your project would significantly add to the understanding of the topic
- some consideration of method
- a detailed bibliography of your background literature
- a good command of the English language and
- that you are capable of independent and critical thinking
4. Academic transcripts for all previous degrees (at this stage it is not necessary to provide certified copies)
5. names and contact details of referees (at least one)
6. Any other relevant information available, such as *English language scores, an abstract of your thesis completed for your previous degree(s) and GRE/GMAT results (only if you have one) etc.
The Business Research Office will forward your details to the Postgraduate Research Coordinator of the relevant School/s who will inform you as to whether you should proceed to making a formal application. The School Postgraduate Research Coordinator will also help you establish a prospective supervisor.

If, after registering your interest, the School Postgraduate Research Coordinator recommends that you apply for admission you may either apply online; or

English language requirement:
To be eligible for entry at UNSW plus satisfy the Australian Government’s student visa requirements, students must provide tisfactory results from an IELTS test undertaken no more than two years prior to the intended commencement date of the UNSW program. An overall minimum score of 6.5 is required together with a minimum score of at least 6.0 in each of the subtests of listening, reading, speaking and writing.
Only eligible applicants who have satisfied the English requirement can be recommended for a UNSW/CSC scholarship. Intending applicants should arrange to sit an IELTS test as soon as possible. When organising to sit an IELTS test please ensure that you allow sufficient time for the test score to be reported to our School at least three weeks before the CSC deadlines for applications.
