The way you dress is always important and more so at something as important as your college scholarship interview. It is a crucial factor in creating the right first impression even before you have had a chance to open your mouth. Just as how you would dress well for any important event in your life same is the case with the scholarship interview.

There are certain set rules for the dress code that you must follow.

Keep your attire ready a few days before the interview. Select the outfit, see how it fits and whether it gives you the confidence and is comfortable.

Make certain that the colors you have chosen are just right for the occasion. The whole outfit must be matched appropriately including the accessories such as shoes, socks, handbag and belt. Try and avoid wearing something new and for the first time to the college scholarship interview as it might not be comfortable.

The outfit that you choose to wear must fit you well and project an image of you that is neat and well-groomed. Make certain that there are no lose buttons or threads sticking out, in fact anything that can mar your image.

Do not opt for colors that are too bright or do not suit you. Choose safe colors such as black, dark blue, grey, white or beige. Ensure that all the accessories suit the attire and make the entire outfit look complete.

For men, you must wear a formal shirt, trousers, a tie and formal shoes. Shoes, as they say make a man, hence; ensure that there are polished and well-maintained. A jacket is optional. Anything that spells casual, however chic needs to be avoided at all costs. Therefore, no comfortable sandals or your favorite T-shirt is allowed. If you have any body piercings remove them and cover tattoos. All these create an image that conveys that you aren’t serious.

Keep your hairstyle conservative too. The college committee is certainly not going to get impressed if you have gelled hair or the latest punk look.

For women, a formal dress or a pant suit is good enough. If you wear a skirt ensure that it is of the right length. Do not wear too high heeled shoes. Wear your hair either in a bun or ponytail. Do not color your hair just before the interview. Long earrings and flashy jewelery is not the thing. Choose a single piece of simple jewelery for the college scholarship interview.

When in doubt always keep in mind that conservative is far better. There should be no straps showing, no lose buttons or dresses that reveal too much. Choose the material of the outfit with care. It should be anti-wrinkle so that you appear cool and in control at the interview.

Once, you have the right outfit it will give you the right amount of confidence to be able to perform at the college scholarship interview with élan.

If you are an athlete then there are several scholarships & grants that you can take advantage of. Almost one billion dollar scholarships are there for athletes only. The competition is fierce as all the sports men and women want a scholarship to fund their education.

Although there are scholarships especially for athletes you do need to do your ground work right. Find out which are the colleges that offer scholarships in your chosen sport. The smaller colleges might not have funds allocated for sports like base ball. The search for a scholarship starts way before you actually start sending out the application forms. You must start collecting enough evidence to be able to prove your exemplary sport abilities to all concerned. Do not despair as you need not be the number one always. What you do need is to be noticed by the right people and you can achieve this by showcasing your skills and gaining visibility.

A certified coach must be able to recommend you. In order for that to happen you must look out for al coach if you are serious about winning that coveted scholarship. The coach must be in a position to watch you play and give you relevant feedback. Your coach must know that you are trying to get an athletic scholarship.

Cite references from the sports profession. People, who have achieved laurels in the sports arena and will vouch for your expertise and sportsmanship.

You must have your specific sports centric resume ready. In this resume you must make a list of all your achievements and prizes won. This will not only help you keep a count of the achievements but show how particular and organized you are. This will certainly impress the scholarship granting committee.

Do not only set your eyes on the big colleges. The smaller colleges have sports teams that need good athletes. This way you will be able to win a full scholarship for certain.

Do not hesitate to negotiate your way through. Just because something has been told to you, does not mean that it can’t be changed. If you are willing to settle for a partial scholarship then you might be chosen over someone else.

Be well prepared with the application form and the essay. In the written work highlight your sports personality and the laurels that you have earned. Remember that you will vie with other sports person.

Let it be known in no uncertain terms of what you can do for the college sports team and how you can benefit them. The committee will be certainly interested in this and how you can help them get better at sports.

Every year more than about 10,000 athletes apply for scholarships in order to get rid of the nightmare of funding their education themselves. If you are looking forward to quality education that will leverage your chances for a lifetime without having to pay for the steep college fees then getting an athletic scholarship is your best bet.

The internet can be your one source of information for scholarships & financial aid. Several people have just used the tools available to them online and found just the right scholarship for themselves.

There are specific ways in which you can go about finding that perfect scholarship that meets all your needs.

Firstly, note down all your accomplishments and strengths. Do not overlook anything that you have done such as an important community project. College committees look for these as the differentiating factors.

After you have got down all the information then you can go to the respective college websites that you are interested in applying to. Almost all the colleges will have financial aid departments on their websites. Scholarships come under the purview of financial aid. Look at the entire website carefully as different departments might have scholarships too. All the scholarships that they award will be listed on their website and that will give you a clearer picture of it.

There are a few specific websites that collate all the information that is relevant to scholarships. Hence, you can go to these websites as this is the place that you will get to know about all the various scholarships all under one umbrella without wasting any time. These websites have actually done the preliminary research and sifting for you. This way you will be able to narrow down on the options that are most suitable to you immediately. All the information is presented in a tabular form which will let you know the deadlines that you need to meet. They will also let you know if you qualify and if you do not you need not read further.

Once you have got all the possible information at your fingertips do not apply only to the ones that are the first three. The trick is to apply and apply and again apply. You might fret at having to fill out so many application forms and all that but in the end when you get to study without paying a single dime it is all going to be worthwhile.

The internet has certainly made things extremely easy for scholarship hunters. Seated in your living room you can find out and get all the information that you could possibly need to win yourself the scholarship of a lifetime. In the good old days you would have to trudge to different colleges, speak to scores of people and go through piles of newspapers. But, all this is passé with the advent of the internet in the world of scholarships. You can get all this and more from the net. There are live testimonials and experiences posted by individuals who themselves have gone through the process. Plus, all the possible list of obstacles that you can avoid. The mistakes that people have made, and learned from them. When you get to know of all this you will avoid the pitfalls and it will be smooth sailing for you up the scholarship lane.

Just as there are scholarships out there, same is the case with innumerable scams in the name of scholarships. Hence, if you want to protect yourself from being scammed it is better to beware then regret later on. Actually, if you are not careful enough then you will end up losing your hard earned money rather than getting it as a scholarship.

There are some things that are common in all scholarship scams. Hence, let us look at these so that you can guard yourself against that.

The first thing that should get your danger flag up is if you are guaranteed a scholarship. Now, make sure that you know that there are no guarantees in scholarships until you actually get them. If anyone tells you that you will certainly get the scholarship then you can immediately blow a whistle on them.

Next, danger indicator is if you are asked to send them any money at the beginning either to get more information on the scholarship process or for the application. Remember that scholarships are for you to get money and not the other way round in any format.

Thirdly, if you are told that there are no parameters to evaluate who will get the scholarship and it is open to everyone then it is certainly a scam. Scholarships are awarded for specific criteria either academic, sports or subjects. You are just not entitled to a scholarship because you applied for one. Therefore, what you must keep in mind is that scholarships can’t be taken for granted and no sure shot assurances can be given about them.

Ensure that you are made to do all the filling up of the application forms. If you are told that all this will be done for you it is a sham as only you can complete and fill the application and send all the requisite paperwork across.

If you are asked to divulge any information about financial matters or any identification such as your social security number then obviously do not do so.

The application form must be complete in all respects and have the phone numbers and addresses where you can contact the representatives. Make certain that you log on to their website and check further and also that they are listed with the relevant authorities as that will make certain that they are genuine.

Also, beware of scholarships that sound too good to be true. If they have really high sounding and bombastic names such as fund or foundation then they might not be genuine.

Lastly, beware of any scholarship offer that you are informed of over the phone. All regular scholarships are informed by post and never over the phone.

Now, that you are aware of the loopholes that scholarship scams can take you can certainly guard yourself against that. With the information as your arsenal you will end up not only saving your money but your time and effort by not letting yourself get scammed.

As a teenager you would certainly not be overly concerned about the financial aspects of your high school study but your parents certainly will be. Parents find it difficult to meet the growing demands of educating their children and hence, might want to consider opting for a scholarship for high school studies.

As a parent the first thing that you need to do is find out all the possible scholarship options that are available to you. You must start doing this at least a year before your child hits high school as this will allow you enough time to complete all the application formalities and meet deadlines. Remember not to procrastinate as that will result in missed opportunities.

There is a particular pin number allotted to people applying for the scholarships for high school. That is called FAFSA. This pin number needs to be separate for you and your child. No application form for high school scholarship is accepted without this hence you must do this pronto. Delay in getting all the necessary paper work in sync means delay in you being awarded the money if any.

Search for specific websites online and along with your child fill out the online information. Start posting the profile online so that you will be contacted or sent the information as and when information pertaining to your interest for scholarships arises.

Ask your child’s school about the websites and information that they have about the scholarships that your child might be able to get. Keep your child’s school informed about the fact that you are looking for a scholarship as they might be able to guide you in the right direction.

Learn to manage your time well. You need to dedicate a significant amount of time to the pursuit of scholarships. You will have to search for scholarships that your child is eligible for and help him/her to fill out the application forms and write the essays.

Where a scholarship for high school is concerned time is a crucial factor. The earlier you begin with applying for scholarships the higher are your chances of getting the funds. Keep aside some money in order for you to send the application forms and so forth. This will result in less stress for you.

Do not hesitate to ask for advice from the experts be they counselors, other parents or from the financial aid office.

Try and be as specific about your needs and wants financially and what kind of scholarship that you are looking for. Also, try being extremely organized in order not to waste time and be able to get the relevant documents and information whenever you need them.

If you do not get the requisite information online then you might want to phone them up or go and visit their office. A scholarship is your chance to save the precious amount of money when the going is tight for you and yet allow your child to continue with their study.

It is everyone’s dream to get into an Ivy League college. And then after years of studying really hard, with all those long hours burning the midnight oil you have finally secured an admission in the in demand Ivy League school. This is certainly a chance for you to get yourself in the big league. Your next step is to be able to get yourself a scholarship so that you can concentrate completely on studying and nothing else.

The cost of an education at the prestigious Ivy League is quite expensive. You might need to spend as much as $50,000. However, you don’t want the cost factor to overshadow your chances of a lifetime. This need not happen if you know how to apply for a scholarship.

The first things that you will need are all the documents including tax records, income records and W-2 forms and bank statements for your parents and you. Once you have got all these in place you need to log on to the website and read the information available for scholarships.

The next step will be to go to the college’s financial department and fill out the forms that are necessary for financial aid. The Ivy League colleges expect you to have the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Once you have given all the information and the requisite documents you will be told about your chances of getting financial assistance.

Let your student counselor know about your family’s financial position. If you have any brothers and sisters, studying at the Ivy League which will enhance your parents financial burden. Let the student counselor know honestly without any hesitation about any illness, job loss or anything that might be related to your financial status and not allow you to pay the fees without a scholarship. This will enable them to guide you in the right direction.

If you feel that your financial aid has been rejected then you can appeal for it by writing to the college’s financial aid office. Enumerate, the factors that have been overlooked,by the committee. After you have done that then you need to wait patiently for their decision.

There are several grants that the Ivy League colleges allocate and a few loans that you can opt for and repay them at a later date.

Now, that you have looked at all the options for scholarships available with the Ivy League you need not stop there.

There are several scholarships available that are outside the Ivy League. Log on to websites such as scholarship.com or fastweb.com so that you can get to know of further options that are open to you. This way you will be able to apply for other scholarships too. As they say do not put your eggs in one basket.

After you have done all of this you need to wait patiently as you never know where your scholarship application will get approved from.
