About The University:
The University of Toronto was founded as King’s College in 1827 and has evolved into a large and complex institution. It now occupies three campuses: Scarborough and Erindale and the historic St. George campus. It has federated with three smaller universities which are on the St. George campus, and is affiliated with several colleges and institutes. There are ten fully affiliated teaching hospitals in metropolitan Toronto. Faculty conduct research in many places in Canada and around the world.

Detail:
This fellowship is undertaken within the department of Medical Imaging at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. There is close collaboration with the Department of Medical Biophysics (Imaging Research) which is adjacent to the Medical Imaging department. Two clinical state of the art 1.5T scanners are on the clinical site with dedicated research time available. With the Department of Medical Imaging Research a further 1.5T, 3T and animal scanner are available.

Eligibility:
Fellowship candidates must have completed an accredited Radiology training program and be:
1. Certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Diagnostic Imaging or
2. American Board of Radiology certified/eligible or
3. Certified with equivalent qualifications and
4. Proficient in both written and spoken English

Goals:
This fellowship will provide in depth exposure to a research environment with an academic interest in vascular biology and clinical interest in thrombo-embolic vasculo-ischaemic disease. This will provide the fellow with the skills and experience to embark on an academic career with a particular interest in the application of clinically relevant novel MRI techniques.  The fellowship will provide:
1. In depth knowledge of cutting edge MRI techniques for the investigation of cardio-cerebro-vascular disease.
2. Participation in hypothesis driven research.
3. Participation in clinical trials.
4. Exposure to developing MRI clinical applications

Objectives:
1. To act as a point of reference for the day to day running of the clinical MRI scanners in conjunction with staff and other fellows within the department. This will include interviewing patients; protocolling requisitions; monitoring examinations; liaison with clinical staff; image post-processing and manipulation;
2. Overseeing and reporting appropriate clinical and research cases;
3. Participation in clinical trials as appropriate;
4. Development of research protocols;
5. Ethics applications;
6. Abstract submission to international meetings;
7. Publication in high ranking peer reviewed journals;
8. Attend rounds, research meetings and provide teaching;
9. Become a fully active member within the vascular biology research programme.

Day to day:
Over 50% of the fellowship will be dedicated to research and output from the fellowship will be expected to reflect this. Clinical case load will involve vascular, thoracic and cardiac MRI. Opportunities exist for exposure to other techniques such as multidetector row CT and PET scanning.
