<p><strong>About HKUST:</strong><br />
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has special scholarship schemes for outstanding JUPAS , EAS and Direct Entry local entrants in the academic year of 2010/11.</p>
<p><strong>Academic Achievements Scholarships:</strong><br />
JUPAS students attaining 2As or above and with Grade D or above in UE &amp; CLC in one single sitting of HKALE1 will be eligible for JUPAS Scholarships.<br />
The JUPAS scholarships range from HK$15,000 to a full scholarship of tuition fee plus allowance of HK$40,000 a year.<br />
Students do not have to apply for JUPAS scholarships. The University will identify qualified JUPAS entrants and inform selected students of the scholarship awards in due course.</p>
<p><strong>All-Round/Non-Academic Achievements Scholarships:</strong><br />
JUPAS students who have obtained admission offer from the University and shown outstanding all-round or non-academic achievements may apply for these scholarships. The scholarships are one-off at HK$15,000 (+Sch/ Dept top-up3) each.<br />
The scholarships are open for application after the release of JUPAS Main Round Offer results.</p>

<p>The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) invites expressions of interest from graduates with evidence of academic excellence, research ability, and good communication, interpersonal and leadership abilities for full-time PhD study within a newly launched Fellowship scheme.</p>
<p>The scheme aims to recruit outstanding graduates, irrespective of country of origin and ethnic background, to Hong Kong, and will provide <strong>a 3-year tuition scholarship</strong>, a monthly stipend of HK$20,000 (approximately US$2,600) and conference travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year for awardees for a maximum period of three years.</p>
<p><strong>About The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU):</strong> PolyU is a government-funded university in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. &nbsp;We have the largest number of students among the seven government-funded universities in Hong Kong, and we have a long and valued history of providing well respected and internationally accredited professionally oriented programmes and producing research of high application value. &nbsp;PolyU is located in the heart of Hong Kong.</p>

<p><strong>Admission Requirements</strong></p>
<p>To register for the degree of PhD, a student shall normally hold a postgraduate degree containing a significant research component, such as a dissertation, conferred by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University or a recognised university.</p>
<p>In exceptional circumstances students other than those stipulated in (1) may be permitted to register.&nbsp; For example, students with a Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours, or the equivalent,&nbsp;may be admitted directly to the PhD programme.&nbsp; Such students may be required to pass an examination.</p>
<p>Applicants who have not obtained a degree from a recognised university of which the language of instruction is English are normally required to obtain a score of 6.0 or above in IELTS (International English Language Testing System); a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) score of 550 or above, a computer-based TOEFL (after 1998) score of 213 or above, or an internet-based TOEFL score of 79 or above. &nbsp;All English language test scores are considered valid for five years after the date of the test. Consideration will be given to acceptable scores obtained in other internationally recognised public examinations, such as GRE (Graduate Record Examination) or GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test), as deemed appropriate.</p>
<p><strong>Selection Criteria</strong></p>
<p>While the academic excellence is of prime consideration, the Review Panels will take into account, but not limit to, the four yardsticks below for the selection of candidates</p>
<p>* Academic excellence;</p>
<p>* Research ability and potential;</p>
<p>* Communication, and interpersonal skills; and</p>
<p>* Leadership abilities.</p>
<p>To facilitate the assessment of applicants’ communication and interpersonal skills, interviews may be conducted with the nominated applicants.</p>

<p><strong>Description</strong></p>
<p>The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) is recruiting PhD students to start in Fall 2010. To find out more about us, please visit our CSE website at:</p>

<p>Our department consists of outstanding faculty members and graduate students with over 40 faculty members and over 100 PhD students. Our medium of teaching and research is English. Besides having a strong publication track record, our faculty and students are among the first to develop advanced and popular P2P systems, industry standards on RFID and sensor networks, computer graphics and vision systems, large-scale data mining and machine learning systems for Web search, GPU and parallel computing for database query processing, to name a few. After getting their PhDs, our students find jobs in worldwide research labs such as Microsoft Research, Google, IBM and top universities in Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Hong Kong. A student who has a master’s degree is expected to graduate with a PhD in 3 years, and an undergraduate degree to graduate in 4 years.<span id="more-2365"></span></p>
<p>Starting in 2010, we are particularly happy to offer the prestigious Hong Kong PHD Fellowship of HK$20,000 (~USD 2,580) per month, plus a travel allowance of HK$10,000 (~USD 1,290) for three years.</p>
<p><strong>Requirements</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>We are looking for outstanding undergraduate students as well as outstanding graduate students with master’s degree with some research experience. .</li>
<li>We are looking for postgraduate students in all areas in computer science and related areas, including but not limited to, artificial intelligence, data and knowledge management, networks and networking systems, software technologies, theoretical computer science and vision and graphics.</li>
<li>We also encourage students interested in multi-disciplinary areas such as bioinformatics, risk management and business intelligence and computational finance</li>
<li>&nbsp;Exceptionally qualified PhD applicants (top 10% in class, &gt;85% GPA, excellent English command) are welcome to contact potential faculty supervisors and apply by Dec 1, 2009. This fellowship award is offered centrally by University Grant Council of Hong Kong.</li>
</ul>
<p>We also offer a large number of postgraduate research studentship awards at HK$156,000 per year (~USD 20,000/year) . Our admission requirement for English is one of recent TOEFL(cbt)&gt;= 580, IELTS&gt;=7, or TOEFL(ibt)&gt;= 92 by the time you enter HKUST.</p>

(CASH) is now inviting applications for the CASH Music Scholarship for Overseas Studies 2009/10 in the field of music composition (serious or pop music). The Scholarship is financed by the CASH Music Fund and administered by Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Ltd. <span id="more-890"></span></p>
<p>The Scholarship was set up in 1994 with an aim to provide financial assistance to outstanding and talented candidates to undertake study or training in music composition at universities or educational institutions outside Hong Kong. More than 10 award recipients have furthered their music education in leading universities and institutes in the U.S.A., United Kingdom and Australia since its launch.</p>
<p><strong>Scholarship value and Details:</strong></p>
<p>The Scholarship is tenable for the duration of up to one year. The maximum value of the Scholarship is HK$165,000 towards tuition fees, living expenses and a return air passage. Applicants should be Hong Kong residents preferably of age 30 or under at the time the Scholarship commences.</p>
<p><strong>Application Deadline:</strong></p>
<p>The closing date for application is <strong>March 31, 2009</strong> and the result will be announced in May.</p>

Master of Laws Scholarship Scheme 2009</strong><br />
&nbsp;<br />
<strong>(1) Introduction</strong><br />
The Faculty of Law of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (&#8221;CUHK&#8221;) proudly announces the introduction of new scholarship within the &#8221; CUHK Faculty of Law Master of Laws Scholarship Scheme 2009&#8243; (the &#8220;Scheme&#8221;). <span id="more-522"></span></p>
<p><strong>(2) Details of the Scheme</strong><br />
Each year, the Faculty of Law (the &#8220;Faculty&#8221;) at CUHK will seek to assist students from around the world to join the Faculty’s postgraduate programmes through the award of scholarships. Different countries/regions will be supported on a rotational basis. For the academic year 2009-2010, three scholarships will be offered to non-local applicants from the following areas:<br />
Europe (Italy, Germany, Russian Federation, Sweden and UK)<br />
India and Sri Lanka<br />
Japan and South Korea</p>
<p>Successful candidates will be awarded a scholarship worth HK$176,000, covering the basic tuition fee of HK$96,000 and a maintenance stipend of HK$80,000.</p>
<p><strong>(3) Eligibility and Selection Criteria</strong><br />
Candidates are eligible to apply for the scholarship if they have the nationality of one of the countries located in one of the target areas mentioned under (2) above;<br />
are not residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region;<br />
have applied for admission to one of the CUHK full-time LLM programmes (for information about normal application procedures, please visit: <a href="http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/gss">www.cuhk.edu.hk/gss</a>);<br />
have satisfied the prescribed CUHK LLM minimum admission requirements;<br />
have achieved i) a result of Band 7.0 or better in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or ii) a result of 580 (Paper Based Test), or 237 (Computer Based Test), or 92 (Internet Based Test) or better in the Teaching of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) test or iii) have obtained a bachelor’s degree which is taught and assessed in English;<br />
are not in receipt of any other scholarship or award for the academic 2009-2010 (to be confirmed by the candidate in writing).</p>
<p>Scholarships will be awarded to successful candidates based on academic merits. The Faculty’s decision in respect of the award of scholarships will be final and no correspondence will be entered into with unsuccessful candidates regarding the award of scholarships. The results will be announced as soon as all the applications have been considered by the Faculty. The award of the scholarships will be confirmed only upon the successful candidates’ admittance to one of the Faculty’s LLM programmes and commencement of their studies. The Faculty reserves the right to decline to make an award in the event that no candidate is considered deserving of a scholarship.</p>

Only complete applications will be considered by the Faculty. The Faculty may decide to invite selected candidates to participate in telephone interviews scheduled to be held in March 2009.</p>
