Global Research Internship Programme In law (Grip) 2011 at O.P. Jindal Global University in New Delhi

Introduction : Law students in India and abroad take up internships to gain crucial work experience and learn practical aspects of lawyering during their legal education. In India, most law schools require students to intern with Social Action Groups, i.e. both Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations, Advocates, Judges, Companies and International Tribunals. However, students interested in boosting their research experience and/or interested in a career in legal academics do not have sufficient opportunity to get hands-on experience. In the United States and other Western jurisdictions, global public interest internship opportunities can be sparing. It is to address this disconnect that India’s first global and research-driven law school, Jindal Global Law School of O.P. Jindal Global University is initiating the Global Research Internship Programme (GRIP).

Eligibility : JGLS is seeking applications from undergraduate and postgraduate law students with interests in law scholarship, teaching and research. Preference is given to applicants who are in the later stages of their legal degrees (i.e. 3-5 year in India, 2-3 year in J.D. programmes). Overseas applicants are encouraged to seek alternate sources of funding for airfare and travel costs.

Internship Opportunities : Research Interns from any legal jurisdiction will have a unique opportunity to conduct research in one or two of the ten research centres at Jindal Global Law School (JGLS). They may also be invited to assist JGLS in its publication and administrative activities and help shape the direction of India’s global university.

Internship Period : JGLS accepts applications for GRIP throughout the year. During the academic year, internships will cover a period of 4-6 weeks. During the summer months, internships may be of longer duration.

Internship Details : All research internships are being offered for placement at the JGLS Campus in Sonipat, Haryana, in the National Capital Region of Delhi. Optional on-campus accommodation can be provided, along with a nominal stipend. Transportation to and from Delhi will be provided via the university buses. A shared workspace, including computer and printing facilities, will be provided to all interns.

Applications Procedure : Applicants should submit a resume including academic credentials, work experience and research experience, together with a one page statement of purpose and the names and contact information for two academic or professional references. Applications, nominations and enquiries should be addressed to: researchinternship@jgu.edu.in

Indian Institute of Technology Is Organizing Post Doctoral Fellowship 2011

About IIT: The history of the IIT system dates back to 1946 when a committee was set up by Hon’ble Sir Jogendra Singh, Member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council, Department of Education, Health and Agriculture to consider the setting up of Higher Technical Institutions for post war industrial development in India. The 22 member committee headed by Sri N.R.Sarkar, in its report, recommended the establishment of four Higher Technical Institutions in the Eastern, Western, Northern and Southern regions, possibly on the lines of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, with a number of secondary institutions affiliated to it. The report also urged the speedy establishment of all the four institutions with the ones in the East and the West to be started immediately. The committee also felt that such institutes would not only produce undergraduates but they should be engaged in research, producing research workers and technical teachers as well. The standard of the graduates should be at par with those from first class institutions abroad. They felt that the proportion of undergraduates and postgraduate students should be 2:1.

Global Research Internship Programme In law (GRIP) 2011 at OP Jindal Global University, Haryana

Internship Qualifications : JGLS is seeking applications from undergraduate and postgraduate law students with interests in law scholarship, teaching and research. Preference is given to applicants who are in the later stages of their legal degrees (i.e. 3-5 year in India, 2-3 year in J.D. programmes). Overseas applicants are encouraged to seek alternate sources of funding for airfare and travel costs.

Application Procedure : Applicants should submit a resume including academic credentials, work experience and research experience, together with a one page statement of purpose and the names and contact information for two academic or professional references. Applications, nominations and enquiries should be addressed to: researchinternship@jgu.edu.in
