<p><strong>About University:</strong><br />
The eight universities, represented by their Vice-Chancellors, make up the membership of Universities New Zealand – Te Pokai Tara.  The Vice-Chancellors meet on a formal basis six times a year.  The position of Chair rotates every two years.</p>
<p><strong>Details:<br />
</strong>This scholarship was established from the Estate of William Georgetti who passed away on 7 Feb 1943.  During his lifetime Mr Georgetti farmed an extensive property at Fernhill, near Hastings, ‘Crissoge&#8217;.  He believed that &#8220;whatever fluctuations there may be in prices for primary produce and in land values and whatever vicissitudes the said Dominion may pass through farming land will always be the most stable asset in which to invest money&#8221;. The purpose of the William Georgetti Scholarships is to encourage postgraduate study and research, normally in New Zealand, in a field that, in the opinion of the Scholarship Board, is important to the social, cultural or economic development of New Zealand.</p>
<p><strong>Eligibility:</strong><br />
Applicants must:<br />
*Have resided in New Zealand for a period of at least five years immediately preceding the year of selection.<br />
*Be of good moral character and repute.<br />
*Be of good health certified to by a physician of repute.<br />
*Hold a degree of a university in New Zealand or elsewhere or any other academic qualification of a university or other institution of learning (in New Zealand or elsewhere) reasonably equivalent in the opinion of the Scholarship Board to a degree of a university in New Zealand.</p>
<p><strong><span id="more-8041"></span>Value:</strong><br />
Up to $20,000 per year for Masters study and $30,000 per year for doctoral study. For those students studying overseas the emolument shall be at a rate of up to $NZ45,000 per year. Between 8-12 scholarships may be awarded each year.</p>

These scholarships have been established under the terms of the Will of the late Helen E. Akers.<br />
1.There shall be two classes of scholarships.<br />
(a)PhD Scholarships: Candidates must be enrolled full-time for a PhD degree in one of the Applied Academic Programme disciplines relevant to agriculture or horticulture (paper prefix of 111, 112, 117, 119, 138, 171, 188, 189, 239 or 239) at Massey University. The scholarships shall be awarded annually as funds permit provided that applications are of sufficient academic merit. The award shall be up to $6,000 per annum.<br />
<span id="more-8047"></span>(b)Postgraduate Scholarships: Candidates must be enrolled full-time for a postgraduate degree or a postgraduate diploma in an Applied Academic Programme discipline relevant to agriculture or horticulture (see above) at Massey University. The scholarships shall be awarded annually as funds permit provided that applications are of sufficient merit. The award shall be up to $3,000 per annum.<br />
2.The scholarships shall be awarded on the recommendation of the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee and shall be based on the candidate&#8217;s academic attainment.<br />
3.In recommending the award of scholarships the Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee shall take account of other scholarships and bursaries held with a view to achieving a reasonable distribution of monies among qualifying candidates.<br />
4.Payment is made in May.<br />
5.At the discretion of the University all, or part, of the annual interest may be reinvested in order to maintain the value of the capital fund.<br />
6.The Applied Academic Programmes Scholarships Committee may withdraw or suspend an award at any time if the recipient fails to make satisfactory academic progress.<br />
7.Applications close with the Scholarships Office, Graduate Research School on 10 March in the year in which the award is to be made.<br />
8.For students who begin their postgraduate programme after 10 March, applications close on 10 September for the first year of their programme.<br />

<p><strong>About GNS Science:<br />
</strong>GNS Science is a research Institute owned by the New Zealand Government and incorporated on 1 July 1992. Our purpose is to understand earth systems and technologies and to transform this knowledge into economic, environmental, and social benefits for New Zealand.</p>
<p><strong>Details:</strong><br />
This is a prestige Scholarship for PhD study in the areas of earth, physical, biological and social sciences specified below. It is open to both men and women, and is tenable at any university in New Zealand. The Scholarship is in memory of Dr Sarah Beanland who died in a tramping accident in June 1996. Sarah&#8217;s enthusiasm, commitment and intellectual ability were an inspiration to all who knew her. She demonstrated superb skills and enthusiasm for integrating geology and geophysics to address tectonic problems. Sarah graduated from the University of Otago and Victoria University of Wellington and conducted most of her work at GNS Science.</p>
<p><strong>Eligibility:<br />
</strong>1. the recipient shall follow a programme of PhD study involving presentation of a thesis at a New Zealand university<br />
2. the research shall be in a field of interest to GNS Science and of relevance to New Zealand<br />
3. there is collaboration between GNS Science and the university; this would normally be shown by a GNS Science staff member being a supervisor of the student, and the student&#8217;s intent to spend time each year at GNS Science in Lower Hutt, Wairakei, or Dunedin.</p>
<p><strong><span id="more-8048"></span>Selection:</strong><br />
The scholarship shall be awarded to the student<br />
1. who best demonstrates, through excellence in their achievements to date and their proposed research, that they are likely to make in their career a significant contribution to research of relevance to New Zealand in fields covered by GNS Science &#8211; possible fields include, but are not limited to, geophysics, geology, social science, geomicrobiology, isotope science, nanotechnology, ion-beam physics, and non-invasive scanning<br />
2. whose project best promotes collaboration between a New Zealand university and GNS Science &#8211; applicants should approach potential supervisors, at their preferred university and at GNS Science, to discuss possible projects before preparing their applications.</p>
<p><strong>Award:</strong><br />
The scholarship will normally be awarded to one student each year with a maximum tenure of three years. The award will comprise a stipend of NZ$26,000 p.a., university fees up to NZ$7,000 p.a. (incl GST), and expenses up to NZ$4,000 p.a. (incl GST).</p>
<p><strong>How To Apply:</strong><br />
There is no prescribed application form. Each application should include (a) a statement of the intended research, (b) the applicant&#8217;s curriculum vitae and academic record, (c) a letter of support from the university where the PhD study is planned, and (d) the names and email addresses of at least two referees.</p>

<p><strong>About Auckland University:<br />
</strong>Founded in 1883, Auckland is now the country’s largest university with 38,500 students, nearly 10,000 of whom graduate annually. The main campus is in the heart of Auckland city and we have four specialist campuses.</p>
<p><strong>Details:<br />
</strong>This scholarship, established in 2003 by the NZ Police, is to support Pacific<br />
students from a wide range of faculties in undertaking doctoral research on topics relating to any aspect of crime or policing. It is named after the late Constable Pita Fuafiva (Snr), a respected member of the Auckland City District Police and Pacific peoples.</p>
<p><strong>Eligibility:<br />
</strong>The Scholarship shall be awarded to a candidate who is enrolled and has paid the fees, or arranged to pay the fees, for a full-time Doctoral study programme at the University of Auckland. Applications will be accepted from a wide range of disciplines where the research topic is related to crime or policing.</p>
<p><span id="more-8061"></span><strong>Value:</strong><br />
One scholarship of up to $12,000, will be awarded annually, for a<br />
period of one year, and may be renewed for up to three years. The Scholarships’ emolument will be paid in two instalments; at the beginning of the first and second semesters.</p>

</strong>Welcome to the Victoria University of Wellington -Te Whare Wananga o te Upoko o te Ika a Maui. Victoria is committed to providing students with opportunities to acquire, understand and apply disciplinary and interdisciplinary knowledge, as well as related skills and attitudes, and to enhance their personal development.</p>
<p><strong>Details:</strong><br />
For the purpose of encouraging postgraduate research at Victoria, the University offers scholarships to students about to commence a full-time, research-focussed Master’s degree. In 2008 over thirty scholarships shall be offered, consisting of a $15,000 stipend, plus domestic fees. International students, other than those from Australia will be liable to pay the difference between the full international student fee and the domestic fee.</p>
<p><strong>Selection:</strong><br />
Only those students enrolled solely for a 90 point thesis or above are eligible to apply. In some cases this will be Part 2 of a two-year Master’s degree and will usually have the course code 591. Students who are enrolled in Master’s degree programmes that have thesis or research components of less than 90 points, or who elect not to enrol for the solely by thesis option, but instead enrol in taught courses, internships, performance, portfolio, practicum, or other programme options, are eligible to apply for the Victoria Graduate Scholarships. Creative Writing candidates are eligible to apply for the Master&#8217;s [by thesis] Scholarship.</p>

Scholarship applicants must contact directly the School in which they wish to enrol so that their research proposal and the feasibility of supervision can be assessed. Enrolling as a Masters student and applying for a Victoria Masters Scholarship are two separate processes. The holding of Victoria Masters Scholarship is conditional upon the scholarship recipient gaining enrolment as a Masters student. Applicants, other than those who have completed all of their study at Victoria, must include a certified copy of their academic record from other institutions with this application. Applicants whose degree has been conferred at any university other than a New Zealand University will be considered in two categories:<br />

The Fellowship was established in 1988 in memory of Mrs Ann Turner. To enable a Trainee Intern or recent medical graduate (within five years of graduating) of The University of Auckland School of Medicine to undertake research into General Practice or to further her/his experience in general practice before entering that discipline.</p>

<p><strong>About Education New Zealand</strong>:<br />
Education New Zealand (ENZ), a not-for-profit charitable trust. ENZ is set up to support the New Zealand export education industry, and to promote New Zealand’s education services offshore.<br />
ENZ is recognised by the New Zealand Government as the umbrella industry body for education exporters in New Zealand. ENZ is governed by an independent Chairperson and Board of Trustees. They are elected by an electoral college of New Zealand institutions, all signatories to the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students in New Zealand.<br />
The organisation is staffed by a small, professional and highly committed team that works closely with industry and our many stakeholders.</p>
<p><strong>Details:</strong><br />
New Zealand International Doctoral Research Scholarships (NZIDRS) are open to all international students who meet the eligibility criteria.</p>
<p><strong><span id="more-7970"></span>Include:</strong><br />
* full tuition fees for three years of full-time doctoral study<br />
* NZ$20,500 per annum living allowance (NZ$1708.33 per month).<br />
* up to NZ$600 annual health insurance allowance<br />
* NZ$2000 (across 3 year tenure) travel allowance. This is intended to be used for conference attendance and field research<br />
* NZ$800 (across 3 year tenure) book and thesis allowance<br />
* NZ$500 one-off establishment allowance. Only to be paid to those students who are travelling to NZ specifically to take up the NZIDRS. No student already located in NZ is eligible to receive this amount.<br />
Additional funds are not available to support accompanying dependants.</p>

<p><strong>About The University of Auckland:<br />
</strong>Founded in 1883, Auckland is now the country’s largest university with 38,500 students, nearly 10,000 of whom graduate annually. The main campus is in the heart of Auckland city and we have four specialist campuses.</p>
<p><strong>Detail:<br />
</strong>A sum of money has been generously placed at the disposal of the Council by the Trustees of the Sanders Memorial Fund upon the condition that the income arising from such fund shall be employed in the provision and maintenance of Scholarships for the benefit of children of members of the Mercantile Marine Service or of the Royal Navy or of the Navy of any Commonwealth country and who are ordinarily resident in the Auckland Provincial District. This Scholarship shall be a memorial to the late Lt Commander W. E. Sanders, VC, DSO, RN. Lt Commander Sanders was granted the Victoria Cross in recognition of his conspicuous gallantry, consummate coolness, and skill in command of one of His Majesty&#8217;s ships in action. He was drowned in 1917 when his ship, the Prize (one of the &#8216;mystery&#8217; or &#8216;Q&#8217; ships) was lost with all hands as the result of an engagement with one or more enemy submarines. In 1998 the Scholarship&#8217;s fund was augmented by Professor Graham Simpson, a former Sanders Memorial Scholar.<br />
These scholarships are granted for the benefit of children of members of the Mercantile Marine Service or of the Royal Navy or of the Navy of any Commonwealth country and who are ordinarily resident in the Auckland Provincial Council.</p>
<p><strong>Eligibility:<br />
</strong>Application forms are available at the Scholarships Office, The University of Auckland. The selection Committee may select for interview such candidates as it thinks fit, after first considering: (a) the performance or the performances of each candidate in the University Bursaries or Entrance Scholarships Examinations (if he has once or more than once sat any of those examinations); and, (b) Such further or other evidence of the candidate&#8217;s ability and performance as it thinks fit. The Selection Committee shall base its recommendation to the Council upon the same matters as those set forth above in paragraphs (a) and (b), and to that end may in its discretion require candidates interviewed or selected for interview to take an examination of a general nature either oral or written. Applications should include evidence as to parents&#8217; membership of the Royal Navy, Navy of any Commonwealth Country, or Mercantile Marine Service.</p>
<p><strong><span id="more-7982"></span>Selection:<br />
</strong>* These scholarships are available to candidates who:<br />
* (a) are the sons or daughters of persons who are or have been members of the Royal Navy or of the Navy of any Commonwealth country or of the Mercantile Marine Service of any such Commonwealth country; and<br />
* (b) are ordinarily resident in the Auckland Provincial District; and<br />
* (c) have not reached the age of nineteen (19) years on 1 February in the year of the award; and<br />
* (d) have not kept Terms or attended Lectures in any University Provided that paragraph (c) shall not apply to candidates who have served in any such Navy or Mercantile Marine Service.</p>
<p><strong>Value of Award</strong>: Not less than $900 pa.</p>

<p><strong>About FGR:</strong><br />
The Faculty of Graduate Research (FGR) administers and oversees all doctoral programmes at Victoria University of Wellington – the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Professional Doctorate, and the Higher Doctorates.<br />
In conjunction with the faculties of Architecture and Design, Humanities and Social Sciences, Law, Science, Engineering, Education, and Commerce and Administration, the FGR aims to provide an environment that fosters doctoral research.<br />
Most doctoral candidates at Victoria will undertake research towards a PhD. The FGR’s role is to inform candidates about the requirements of PhD study and the policies that govern the degree so that they can focus their energy on research.<br />
The FGR also provides skills-development opportunities for PhD candidates and supervisors, manages quality reviews, and monitors the feedback students provide about their PhD experiences.</p>
<p><strong>Details:</strong><br />
Victoria University offers an extensive scholarship program for PhD candidates. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence and/or research experience and publication record.<br />
The University currently awards over 75 Victoria PhD Scholarships annually. This scholarship provides a tax-free living allowance of NZ$21,000 per annum for up to three years and covers tuition fees during the tenure of the scholarship.</p>
<p><strong>Eligibility:<br />
</strong>All prospective and existing full-time PhD students are eligible to apply for Victoria PhD scholarships, irrespective of residence or nationality.</p>
<p><strong><span id="more-7984"></span>Number of awards offered</strong>: 30+ each round</p>
<p><strong>Value:</strong><br />
$21,000 stipend annually plus tuition fees. Alternative funding options may be offered.</p>
