<p><strong>Details:</strong><br />
Applications are invited for a Research Fellowship in Music in connection with the AHRC-funded project ‘Cantum pulcriorem invenire’: Thirteenth-Century Latin Poetry and Music.  Part of this project is a collaboration with the University of Sydney’s eScholarship.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of an online catalogue of the twelfth- and thirteenth-century conductus, directed by Dr Robert Curry, under the overall supervision of the project director, Professor Mark Everist.  The Fellowship will be for three years with no possibility of renewal.</p>
<p><strong>Eligibility:</strong><br />
Applications are welcome from candidates with a PhD in Music, with a specialism before 1600, or in such a cognate and relevant subject as Latin or vernacular literatures.  The successful candidate will also show evidence of excellent research potential, and the ability to balance the requirements of the AHRC project with their own research.  Successful candidates will be supported in their career development, and will be provided with funding to enable them to attend conferences.<br />
The Research Fellowship is open to all candidates world-wide holding a PhD. Residence near or in, or relocation to, either Southampton or Sydney is essential.</p>

<p><strong>Details:</strong><br />
Applications are invited for two postdoctoral research fellows to work on an AHRC funded research project on “Parliaments and Human Rights” with Murray Hunt, Legal Adviser to the Joint Committee on Human Rights of the UK Parliament. The aim of the research project is to evaluate (1) the effectiveness of legislative human rights review, by both the JCHR and<br />
Parliament generally during the 2005-10 Parliament; and (2) the judicial response to such legislative human rights review. The research will involve the postholders developing a methodology for conducting this evaluation, reviewing the academic literature on human rights (in both law and political science), and searching and analyzing both parliamentary materials and court judgments.</p>
<p><strong><span id="more-8272"></span>Eligibility:</strong><br />
Candidates should hold a doctorate in law, with particular expertise in human rights and constitutional law. Knowledge of current debates about the respective roles of courts and parliaments in protecting and promoting human rights is essential. Prior research experience with parliamentary materials would be desirable.</p>
<p><strong>Duties:</strong><br />
The key duties of the Research Fellows will be:<br />
• Conducting a comprehensive and systematic literature review<br />
• Developing and refining a methodology for evaluating the effectiveness of legislative human rights review and the relationship between legislative and judicial human rights review<br />
• Research and qualitative analysis of:<br />
- the use of JCHR reports in parliamentary debates 2005-10<br />
- other references to human rights in parliamentary debates and committee reports in the 2005-10 Parliament<br />
- amendments made to Government Bills in response to JCHR reports and of<br />
other Government responses to JCHR recommendations<br />
- the references made to JCHR reports in court judgments since 2001<br />
- the references made to parliamentary materials in cases concerning the human rights compatibility of primary or secondary legislation<br />
- references made to parliamentary materials in cases concerning the adequacy of the Government’s response to a court judgment about human rights<br />
- other significant higher court cases concerning the respective roles of courts and Parliament in relation to human rights 2000-2010<br />
- the relevant international standards (e.g. Council of Europe recommendations, resolutions etc.) concerning the role of national parliaments in the protection of human rights<br />
• Presenting the research findings in an accessible and intelligible form<br />
• Collaborating with the other research fellow in all of the above.</p>

<p><strong>Scholarship Description</strong>:<br />
The International Office is delighted to announce 2 Newcastle University Nigeria Scholarship (NU Nigeria Scholarship) awards. These are available for high achieving Nigerian students applying for entry onto postgraduate taught degree or research programmes within the Faculties of Humanities Arts and Social Sciences (HASS), Science, Agriculture and Engineering (SAgE), and Medical Sciences (FMS) commencing their studies in September 2011.  Each scholarship will have a value of £3,000, payable towards the first year of tuition fees.</p>

You could be eligible to apply for a NU Nigeria Scholarship if: You have been offered a place on any postgraduate degree programme in the faculties of HASS,  SAgE or FMS.You are a Nigerian national and have been assessed as international/overseas for fees purposes. The scholarships can only be used as part-payment towards tuition fee costs and cannot be used in conjunction with any other School funding award. <p><strong>Scholarship Description:</strong><br />
We offer up to ten scholarships for undergraduate students for September entry. The scholarships are open to prospective full-time undergraduate students in any subject area for each year of a three-year course (subject to satisfactory progress). Foundation degree students (first or second year entry) are also eligible for the scholarships. Scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:</p>
<p><strong>Academic merit</strong>:<br />
what you expect to gain from the course you are taking; and<br />
You can apply online for scholarships for September 2011 entry. Please note that we cannot consider applications received after the deadline. Remember that the scholarships application procedure is separate from the admissions application procedure.  Before you begin your application, please make sure that you meet the eligibility criteria. You must:be an international student (classified as ‘overseas’ for fee purposes);<br />
have an offer of a place on a course at Kingston for 2011 entry; and<br />
not currently be registered on an undergraduate or postgraduate course at Kingston University. Please also note that you will need electronic copies of the following documents to make your application online:<br />
a copy of your Kingston University offer letter;<br />
an academic reference letter;<br />
a copy of your academic transcript/worksheet; and<br />
a copy of your IELTS/TOEFL result (where applicable).</p>

<p><strong>Details:</strong><br />
This research studentship is fully funded by the University of Worcester (UK). During your time at Worcester, you will be provided with your own computer and an office space, which you will normally share with other full-time research students. Your office will normally be located within the Psychological Sciences academic unit, which consists of 12 lecturers and a number of postgraduate students and research assistants.<br />
The research studentship is also linked to the Association for Dementia Studies (ADS). The focus of which is securely set on a body of work that will improve the lives of people living with dementia, their families and those who work to support them. Established under the leadership of Professor Dawn Brooker in May 2009, ADS works in partnership with health and social care providers, practitioners, commissioners and government agencies to provide research, education and expert consultancy in the field of person-centred dementia care and support.</p>
<p><strong><span id="more-8181"></span>Aims and Objectives:</strong><br />
The aim of the study is threefold: First, to assess general differences in the Age of Acquisition effects and memory abilities within tasks between the MCI and non-MCI cohort. Second, to  assess if AoA and memory are significant predictors of the development of dementia  in individuals with MCI. Third, to develop a practical assessment to assess patients with MCI, which will be reliable and robust in predicting the probability of progression to a state of diagnosed dementia.</p>
<p><strong>Qualification:</strong><br />
The applicant is expected to be enthusiastic, hard working and to be able to engage in all aspects of the research process<br />
Applicants should have (or expect to receive) a First or Upper Second Honours Degree<br />
or a higher degree in psychology or a discipline associated with psychology.<br />
Proficiency in oral and written English;<br />
Computer literacy;<br />
Ability to organise and meet deadlines;<br />
Good interpersonal skills;<br />
Ability to work independently and contribute to a team;<br />
Commitment and an enthusiastic approach to completing a higher research degree<br />
Experience in the use of Quantitative and qualitative analysis<br />
Interest in Dementia and/or Psycholinguistics</p>
<p><strong>Desirable:</strong><br />
Education to Masters Degree level in a psychology related discipline;<br />
Experience in using SPSS software<br />
Full UK Driving Licence</p>
