CSIRO – STUDENTSHIP 2011 IN METAL ORGANIC – AUSTRALIA
PhD Studentship 2011 in Metal Organic Frameworks for Gas in CSIRO Materials Science and Engineering at Australia
About CSIRO:
The Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation is Australia’s national science agency and one of the largest and most diverse research agencies in the world.
Detail:
Applications are invited for a PhD Studentship in the research area of Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs). Metal-Organic Frameworks are an emerging class of materials with exceptional porosity on the molecular and mesoscale. Consisting of metal atoms or clusters linked in a periodic fashion through organic molecules, MOFs have pores of 0.5-5 nm diameter, walls just one atom thick, and surface areas of several thousand square metres per gram. The utility of these materials for gaseous fuel storage has recently been demonstrated.
To be successful you’ll need:
1. Australian citizenship or permanent residency status
2. An honours degree of either Class I or IIA in chemistry or chemical engineering, together with an Australian Postgraduate Award, or other equivalent PhD Scholarship
The role of PhD Studentship will involve the following key duties:
* Delivery of a new class of MOFs that may absorb hydrogen, methane or carbon dioxide.
* Materials discovery using CSIRO’s $1.2M robotic synthesis platform for materials discovery.
* Publication of key research finding within high impact journals
* Development innovative approaches to the discovery of a new class of gas storage materials.
Selection Criteria:
Candidates must write a paragraph against each selection criterion. Applicants who do not a do this (i.e. address the selection criteria) may not be considered. For assistance when preparing your application please read the information available at “Guidelines for Applicants”
Essential:
1. Australian citizenship or permanent residency status
