Detail:
This fixed term (45 months) full-time post forms part of a team working on a European Research Council Starting Grant research project entitled ‘The here and the hereafter in Islamic traditions’ (HHIT), led by Dr Christian Lange, Lecturer in Islamic Studies. The research team will also include two doctoral researchers.  A willingness to work in a team is essential for this post.

Academic attributes: Essential
1. A high degree of excellence in the field of Islamic/Middle Eastern Studies, Religious Studies, or a cognate discipline, demonstrated by a published monograph
2. Knowledge of, and interest in, Islamic religious literature, particularly in the area of Islamic eschatology
3. Knowledge of at least one Islamicate language, preferably Arabic, but not excluding others
4. Proficiency in English (spoken and written) as well as the ability to work with secondary literature in several modern European languages
Desirable
1. Experience of dealing with Islamic manuscripts
2. Willingness to provide undergraduate and/or postgraduate seminars on the chosen research topic

Qualifications & Experience:
Essential
1. PhD in a relevant subject
2. Knowledge of relevant research approaches and models, analytical techniques and methods.
Desirable
1. Experience designing, building and/or maintaining websites

Salary:
The role is grade UE07 and attracts an annual salary in the range of £29,853 to £35,646 for 35 hours each week.  Salary is paid monthly by direct transfer to your Bank or Building Society account, normally on the 28th of the month.
