PhD scholarship in psycholinguistics at   Netherlands

Introduction

The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen (The Netherlands) offers a 3-year  scholarship for research leading towards a PhD in the field of psycholinguistics. The Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics is an institute of the German Max Planck Society and  the only institution in the world entirely devoted to psycholinguistics. Our mission is to undertake  basic research into the psychological and biological foundations of language. The goal is to understand how our minds and brains process language, how language interacts with other aspects of  mind, and how we can learn languages of quite different types. Nijmegen is a vibrant university town  situated two hours from Amsterdam, and has easy access to Belgium and Germany.

Eligibility requirements:

The successful candidate will

  • develop a dissertation project within the new Individual Differences  in Language Production and Language Comprehension Group headed by Prof Antje Meyer. The project will  be supervised by Dr Falk Huettig. The precise nature of the project will be agreed in collaboration  with the successful candidate, but it should concern the interaction of visual, conceptual, and  linguistic processes during language production and/or comprehension or the determinants of  individual differences in language production or comprehension skills. The research may involve a variety of methodological approaches, including the use of eye-tracking and neuroscience techniques.
  • Applicants should have a good first degree in Psychology or a related discipline.
