			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Funderburg Research Scholar Award in Gastric Biology Related to Cancer</h3>
<h3>One award is made to support the research of an established investigator working on novel approaches to gastric cancer.</h3>
<h3>Description</h3>
<p>This grant of $50,000 per year for two years (total $100,000) is awarded to an established investigator working on novel approaches in gastric cancer, including the fields of gastric mucosal cell biology; regeneration and regulation of cell growth (not as they relate to peptic ulcer disease or repair); inflammation (including Helicobacter pylori) as precancerous lesions; genetics of gastric carcinoma; oncogenes in gastric epithelial malignancies; epidemiology of gastric cancer; etiology of gastric epithelial malignancies; or clinical research in the diagnosis or treatment of gastric carcinoma.</p>
<h3>Objective</h3>
<p>To support an active, established investigator in the field of gastric biology who enhances the fundamental understanding of gastric cancer pathobiology in order to ultimately develop a cure for the disease.</p>
<h3>Eligibility</h3>
<ul>
<li>Applicants must hold faculty positions at accredited North American institutions and must have established themselves as independent investigators in the field of gastric biology.</li>
<li>Women and minority investigators are strongly encouraged to apply.</li>

</ul>
<h3>Requirements</h3>
<ul>
<li>A letter of recommendation should be provided by the Division Chief or Chair of the Department of Medicine and should outline support of the candidate and his/her research program.</li>
<li>Funds are to be used for the salary support, equipment and supplies of the investigator to promote his/her research.&nbsp; Indirect costs are not allowed.</li>
<li>Upon notification of receipt of this award, awardee must provide approval from the appropriate committee at your institution for use of human subjects or animals.&nbsp; If approval is not necessary, awardee must provide explanation.</li>
<li>The investigator must submit semi-annual progress reports and an annual financial report to the Foundation. Second year funding is contingent upon submission of these reports.</li>
<li>All publications arising from work funded by this program must acknowledge support from the R. Robert &amp; Sally D. Funderburg Research Scholar Award in Gastric Biology, the AGA and the Foundation for Digestive Health and Nutrition.<!--more--></li>
</ul>
<h3>Award Overlap</h3>
<p>If an award recipient receives notification of another award with overlapping scientific objectives, prior to the start date of an AGA or FDHN award, the applicant must choose between the two awards.</p>
<h3>Selection Criteria</h3>
<p>The recipient will be selected based on novelty, feasibility and significance of the proposal; attributes of the candidate; and the likelihood that support will lead to a research career in the field of gastric biology. Preference will be given to novel approaches.</p>
<h3>Review Process</h3>
<p>A selection committee composed of selected experts in cancer research will review the proposals and determine the award recipient.</p>

If the deadline occurs on a weekend or holiday, the application document must be received by midnight the following business day. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>TBA master&#8217;s / MSC scholarships 2009</h3>
<p>The TBA Postgraduate Scholarships are annually offered by the Tropical Biology Association to its African alumni which are funded through a consortium of TBA funders. The scholarships are to help African alumni undertake postgraduate studies after they have attended TBA courses. They are part of the TBA alumni follow up support programme designed to promote human resource development and strengthen professional expertise among African biologists in biodiversity conservation and research.</p>

<p><strong>Scholarship includes:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Funding granted for up to two years of study leading to the award of a Master&#8217;s degree.</li>
<li>Depending on the proposed study programme, the scholarship will include tuition fees, travel costs, study materials, and a modest living allowance.</li>
</ul>
<p><strong>Eligibility:</strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Applicants must be nationals from Africa who have attended a TBA course.</li>
<li>Priority will be given to those who attended courses since 2001.<span id="more-2461"></span></li>
</ol>
<p>Applicants must pursue a postgraduate degree that will directly enhance their research and conservation skills that is relevant to their own country.<br />
How to apply</p>
<p><strong>Applications must be in English and include the following:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>TBA Postgraduate Scholarship application forms duly filled.</li>
<li>Cover letter (no more than two pages) indicating how the applicant will benefit from the course, apply education to enhance biodiversity conservation in country, region, district and community.</li>
<li>A copy of acceptance letter to a university programme, or submit documentation indicating that they have applied for Master&#8217;s study or its equivalent.</li>
<li>Letter from employer (if applicable) confirming current status of applicant and that you will be allowed time off during the duration of study.</li>
<li>Two letters of reference written by someone who has supervised you during your academic studies or professional employment. Note that it will be your responsibility to ensure that the referees send the reference letter in good time.</li>
</ul>
