This grant of $50,000 per year for two years (total $100,000) is awarded to an established investigator working on novel approaches in gastric cancer, including the fields of gastric mucosal cell biology; regeneration and regulation of cell growth (not as they relate to peptic ulcer disease or repair); inflammation (including Helicobacter pylori) as precancerous lesions; genetics of gastric carcinoma; oncogenes in gastric epithelial malignancies; epidemiology of gastric cancer; etiology of gastric epithelial malignancies; or clinical research in the diagnosis or treatment of gastric carcinoma.

Objective

To support an active, established investigator in the field of gastric biology who enhances the fundamental understanding of gastric cancer pathobiology in order to ultimately develop a cure for the disease.

Eligibility

Applicants must hold faculty positions at accredited North American institutions and must have established themselves as independent investigators in the field of gastric biology.

Women and minority investigators are strongly encouraged to apply.

Applicants must be Members of the AGA at the time of application submission. Please visit www.gastro.org or call 301-654-2055 for membership information.

Selection Criteria

The recipient will be selected based on novelty, feasibility and significance of the proposal; attributes of the candidate; and the likelihood that support will lead to a research career in the field of gastric biology. Preference will be given to novel approaches.

Review Process

A selection committee composed of selected experts in cancer research will review the proposals and determine the award recipient.
