Edinburgh Global Master’s Scholarships
The University of Edinburgh will offer 20 Master’s scholarships for postgraduate study in any subject offered by the University for the 2010-2011 academic session.
Each scholarship will have a value of £3,000 which will be tenable for one academic year.

Eligibility for scholarship:
The scholarships will be awarded to students who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for a postgraduate Master’s programme of study at the University of Edinburgh from the following countries:
Africa (List of African Countries)     Mexico
Canada     Middle East (List of Middle East Countries)
China     Norway
Hong Kong     Russia
India     Singapore
Japan     Taiwan
Korea     Thailand
Malaysia     USA

Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit. Candidates must have, or expect to obtain, a UK first class or 2:1 Honours degree at undergraduate level or the international equivalent.

The scholarships will cover the UK/EU tuition fees up to £5,100 which will be deducted from the tuition fee and will be tenable for one academic year.

The scholarships will be awarded to UK/EU citizens who are accepted for admission on a full-time basis for a postgraduate Master’s programme of study at the University of Edinburgh.
Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.
The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit with candidates requiring a first-class honours degree from a UK university, or the overseas equivalent.

Deascription
A minimum of four Career Development Studentships are offered by  Psychology within the School of Philosophy, Psychology and Language Sciences

Career Development Studentships are designed to provide students with teaching experience , and other career    development opportunities.  A stipend of £10,000 per nnum will be provided in addition to tuition fees at the Home/EU level and additional

Eligibility
Candidates should have an academic background in Psychology holding (or expecting to hold by September 09) a postgraduate Masters level qualification or equivalent and be eligible to apply for PhD level study at the University of Edinburgh.   Students entering the second year of their PhD Psychology study at the University of Edinburgh are also encouraged to apply.

Both International and Home/EU students are eligible to apply although please note that the tuition fees provided in the studentship are at a Home/EU level only.

Benefits and duration:

The Julius Nyerere Master’s Scholarship will cover the full overseas tuition fee, living costs of £10,000, and a return flight from Tanzania to the UK. In 2009-2010 the tuition fees and living costs will be covered by the University of Edinburgh, while the return flights will be covered by the Tanzania Edinburgh Community Association.

The scholarship will be tenable for one academic year.

The scholarship will be awarded to a Tanzanian citizen who is normally resident in Tanzania, and who is accepted for admission on a full-time basis for a postgraduate Master’s programme of study at the University of Edinburgh.

Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.

Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded broadly on the basis of academic merit with candidates requiring a Bachelor Degree equivalent to a UK first class or 2:1 Honours degree.

In addition to the above academic qualifications, the selection panel will also take into account the financial circumstances of applicants to ensure that as far as possible a student’s financial situation does not impede a university education at the University of Edinburgh.

Application Procedure

Candidates applying for the one-year Master’s scholarship should send a two page statement outlining what they expect to gain from their Master’s programme and how it will enable them to make a future contribution in their home country. In addition, applicants should send a transcript and the names of two referees. The referees may send their letters separately.

Candidates applying for the PhD scholarship should send a statement (around three pages) of their intended research including a rationale for the project and the intended methodology; a transcript of results obtained in a relevant first degree; and the names of two referees. The referees may send their letters separately.

Funding Information for Prospective Postgraduate International Students

The University of Edinburgh will offer a Master’s Scholarship to a student from Malawi for postgraduate study in MSc in Education. The Godwin Jere Scholarship was set up in 2008 in memory of Godwin Jere who was a headteacher from Malawi and who graduated from the University of Edinburgh in November 2006 with an MSc in Education.

The Godwin Jere Malawi Master’s Scholarship will cover the full overseas tuition fee and will be tenable for one academic session.

Eligibility

The scholarship will be awarded to a Malawian citizen who is a headteacher of a primary or secondary school and is normally resident in Malawi, and who is accepted for admission on a full-time basis for the MSc in Education programme of study at the University of Edinburgh.

Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.

Criteria

Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence, achievement and potential. Financial circumstances of the candidates are not taken into account.

Wolfson Microelectronics Scholarship for 2009-2010 Session

The University of Edinburgh will offer two scholarships in 2009-2010 to students who plan to undertake PhD degrees in the School of Informatics or the School of Engineering and Electronics at the University of Edinburgh. The value of each award will be £15,000 per academic year and is tenable for a maximum of three years. Please note that no Wolfson Microelectronics Scholarships will be available for 2008-2009.

The scholarship may be terminated at any time when an unsatisfactory progress report is received from the School or if the scholarship holder ceases to be registered as a full-time student at the University of Edinburgh.

Eligibility

The scholarship is awarded to an MPhil/PhD student intending to study in the School of Informatics or the School of Engineering and Electronics at the University of Edinburgh. The sole criterion for the scholarships will be academic excellence; successful applicants are likely to hold or expect to achieve a UK first class Honours undergraduate degree or the overseas equivalent.
