PhD Scholarship 2011 in Materials Science in UBC Okanagan School of Engineering, Canada
About School:
UBC Okanagan’s School of Engineering offers a unique and innovative curriculum to prepare students for the realities of engineering practice. Team-based project learning encourages students to carry on the life-long learning process, to integrate engineering applications within a team environment and to foster interdisciplinary thinking. Specializing in one of the core engineering disciplines offered by UBC Engineering provides students a solid engineering foundation.
Detail:
A funded position for a PhD student is immediately available in the field of Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Materials Science.
Eligibility:
The candidate should have a Master’s degree in Materials Science or Mechanical Engineering. Knowledge of materials characterization techniques is necessary (optical microscopy, SEM, EDX, image analysis, microstructure characterization).
Criteria:
Experience with thermal analysis, diffraction techniques, high-temperature mechanical behavior measurement, powder metallurgy and metalcasting are an asset. The student will work on the development of creep-resistant magnesium alloys, and their subsequent characterization.
