About The university:

Detail:
A three-year PhD studentship at the University of Cambridge, in collaboration with SACAC Ltd and the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research (EMPA), is now available. The project will investigate innovative high strength carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) prestressed concrete systems, such as spun-concrete electricity pylons and external façade elements. The particular aim of this exciting project is to link a fundamental investigation of the long-term durability of CFRP prestressed concrete structures with the in-service requirements for practical applications.

Eligibility:
Applicants must have a strong first degree in a relevant engineering or science subject. Knowledge of structural analysis and design and/or mechanics of materials is also desirable. The post is available from Jan/Feb 2011. The studentship will provide maintenance and covers approved College and University fees for UK/EU/Swiss students over the three-year period.
