Post Doctoral Research Fellowship (PDRF) In University Of Malaya At Malaysia

Detail:
The scheme is called the University of Malaya Post Doctoral Research Fellowship (PDRF).
Eligibility: Candidates for the fellowship must meet the following requirements:
(1) Have obtained a PhD degree or have attended and passed the viva-voce (please provide a letter from the institution concerned to attest to this);
(2) Have proof of proficiency in the English language (a minimum score of 600 in the TOEFL or Band 6.5 in the IELTS) for candidates whose PhD thesis was written in languages other than English;
(3) Is of not more than 40 years of age; and
(4) Have experience in carrying out research and have published in reviewed journals at either the national or international level.
Prioritized Fields of Research: Areas which have been identified by the University of Malaya as prioritized research clusters are as follows:
(i) Advanced Fundamental Research;
(ii) Biotechnology;
(iii) Clinical & Translational Medicine;
(iv) Advanced Material & Technology;
(v) Advanced Engineering & Manufacturing;
(vi) Sustainability & Environment;
(vii) Information & Computational Science;
(viii) Social & Behavioral Science;
(ix) Strategic & International Relations;
(x) Humanities & Ethics; and
(xi) Other fields as determined periodically by the University Management.
Duties and Responsibilities The duties and responsibilites of the Post Doctoral Research Fellow are as follows:
(1) To carry out, on a full time basis, research which will be based at the Academy/Faculty/Centre/Institute and under the supervision of the Head of the RC (PTj);
(2) To produce at least 2 publications a year in a refereed and/or cited journal;
(3) To submit to the Head of the PTj a progress report on the research every 6 months;
(4) To provide not more than 4 hours of lecture/tutorial a week, when required; and
(5) To submit to the Director, Institute of Management, Research and Consultancy (IPPP), the research output/report in writing at the end of the appointment period as authorized by the Head of the RC (PTj).
Source of Research Grant:
The candidate is a joint researcher along with other academic staff approved by the research grant.
Duration of Appointment:
(1) The first appointment should not exceed 1 year
(2) An extension may be considered subjected to the progress report and recommendation of the Head of the RC (PTj).
(3) The maximum duration of appointment is 3 years.
(4) The candidate may be considered for appointment as Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor after holding the position of Post Doctoral Research Fellow for 2 years subjected to the research progress, recommendation of the Head of PTj and rules and regulations and conditions applicable to foreign employees as well as current policies enforced (for foreign workers).
Appointment Status:
Appointments are given contract status. (For candidates who are not Malaysian citizens, the conditions of appointment are subjected to the rules and regulations and conditions applicable to foreign workers as well as current policies enforced).
Living Allowance:
(1) A Living Allowance will be paid in lump sum for an amount of between RM66,000.00 and RM90,000.00 a year based on length of experience.
(2) A higher Living Allowance may be considered for candidates with outstanding expertise.
Benefits and Subsistence: Other facilities provided are as follows:
(1) Medical facilities for the candidate inclusive of:
(a) Medical treatment at the panel clinic; and
(b) Hospital or specialist treatment at government hospitals and the University of Malaya Medical Center only.
(2) Return Apex/Budget flight fares once throughout the duration of appointment for candidates who are not Malaysian citizens or who are Malaysians residing overseas or in Sabah and Sarawak.
(3) Insurance Coverage
(4) Annual leave totalling 20 days.
(5) Work facilities such as a laboratory or office space furnished with equipment including telephone and computer.
Notice of Termination of Appointment:
A 30-day notice is required or 1 month living allowance will be forfeited in place of the notice from both parties.
Holding Other Positions:
Holding other positions whether within or outside of the University of Malaya is not allowed.
Source of Finances:
This scheme is funded by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education’s allocation for the Research University.
The Authority to Appoint:
(1) The authority to appoint the Post Doctoral Research Fellow is with the Vice Chancellor .
(2) A Selection Committee must be set up for the purpose of recommending the appointment of the Post Doctoral Research Fellow for the consideration of the Vice Chancellor.
(3) The Selection Committee may approve a higher honorarium for candidates with outstanding expertise.
Application:
(1) Application is open all year.
(2) Invitation to apply will be advertised once a year (beginning of the year);
(3) Applications must be through the stipulated form which can be downloaded from the University of Malaya Website.
(4) Applications must be submitted to the Director, Institute of Management, Research & Consultancy (IPPP) through the Head of the RC (PTj) to be checked and verified prior to submission to the HRD for approval.
(5) Candidates must submit original documents/certificates when reporting for duty.
