UNSW, AUSTRALIA – RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP 2011

Postdoctoral Research Fellowship 2011 in The University of New South Wales at Australia

About University:
Human Resources supports the University’s aspiration to be a leading research intensive university by ensuring that relevant and innovative people policies, practices and systems are in place so that UNSW can attract, retain and develop outstanding staff. We provide a comprehensive range of HR services and work in close partnership with Faculties and Divisions to grow a high performing culture and a supportive working environment for all UNSW staff.

Detail:
We are looking for a motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to be based at the Bragg Institute in Sydney (Dr. F. Klose) and at the University of New South Wales in Sydney (A/Prof. C. Ulrich). The aim of the project is the study of transition metal oxide superlattices like unconventional superconductors or multiferroic materials by polarized neutron reflectometry. Experiments will be mainly carried out at the new reflectometer, Platypus at the OPAL research reactor in Sydney. The research program is related to thin magnetic films for applications in future spin electronics or novel sensor devices.

Experimental
Collaborate with an international team of scientists and perform state of the art experimental research at the Bragg Institute and other science facilities:
1. Neutron reflectometry and diffraction to investigate structural and magnetic properties of nanoscale thin films.
2. Use of complementary structural and magnetic methods (including magnetometry and X-ray/synchrotron methods).

Your tasks
1. Perform neutron scattering and complementary experiments at national and international research facilities.
2. Data analysis, interpretation and publication of experimental results.

Your profile
1. We are looking for a candidate with strong background in condensed matter physics. Experience as a user of large scale research facilities like neutron sources or synchrotron rings would be an advantage.
2. Willingness in travel overseas for experiments, conferences or other collaborative research.
3. Ability to work in an international team.
This work is part of collaboration between the University of New South Wales (Sydney) and The Bragg Institute at ANSTO (Sydney). The position will be based at the Bragg Institute, visiting the UNSW when required for further experiments. This is a full time position, fixed term for 12 months.
Applicants should systematically address the selection criteria in their application

Salary Level A: A$71,250 – A$76,209 per year, plus 9% employer superannuation plus leave loading.
