Throughout the 2008-2009 academic year, many of you graciously gave of your time to take part in the visioning process to help determine the “most desired future” for Valparaiso University. Once again, I thank you for your participation and for caring so deeply about Valpo’s future.

Each year, the Lilly Graduate Fellows Program selects a cohort of 16 fellows who are entering Ph.D. or equivalent graduate programs in humanities and arts at schools of their choosing. The 2011-2014 Lilly Graduate Fellows will enter graduate school in the fall, 2011. Over a three year period, these fellows, along with two senior mentors, will communicate and collaborate with each other in areas of research, teaching, and professional development. The program will reach completion with the introduction of the Graduate Fellows to representatives of the Lilly Fellows Program National Network at the Network’s annual national conference. More specifically, Lilly Graduate Fellows will participate in the following programmatic objectives
1. Lilly Graduate Fellows attend 4 conferences over the course of three years. These conferences allow Fellows to collaborate with each other and with senior scholars and luminaries who integrate research, teaching, vocation, and an interest in church-related higher education.
2. Lilly Graduate Fellows will develop a relationship with two mentors who are senior scholars at a Lilly Fellows Program Network School.
3. Lilly Graduate Fellows and mentors participate in a distance colloquium that involves group readings and discussions over the course of the three year program. This colloquium requires an average time commitment of 2-3 hours per week.
4. Lilly Graduate Fellows will receive 3 annual $3,000 fellowship awards for use at the Fellows’ discretion.
Eligibility:
Nominees must intend to enter a Ph.D., M.F.A., Th.D., or equivalent program the school of their choice in fall, 2011, that will lead to a teaching career in humanities or the arts within the academy. Nominees should also want to explore the connections between Christianity and higher education and have an interest in teaching at a church-related school. In addition, nominees must meet the following eligibility requirements :
*Nominees must have earned or be in the process of earning a baccalaureate degree from a LFP network institution.
*Eligibility is open to seniors graduating during 2010/2011 academic year, or to anyone having received a baccalaureate from a network institution after April, 2006.
*Nominees must be U.S. Citizens.
*In order to receive this Fellowship, nominees must have been accepted into a Ph.D., M.F.A., Th.D., or equivalent program by June 1, 2011. The school must be located in North America.
*Eligible disciplines are: art; art history; creative writing; history; interdisciplinary studies; languages and literatures; music; music history; philosophy; religion; rhetoric; theater history; theater arts, and theology.
*Finalists must attend an Interview Conference on April 8-10, 2011 (overseas applicants please contact us). Fellows must attend an Inaugural Conference on August 1-4, 2011. The LGFP will cover all expenses for these events.
Nomination:
All nominees for the Lilly Graduate Fellows Program must be nominated by their LFP National Network Undergraduate institutions. Each Network Institution can nominate up to three nominees. To inquire about nomination, please contact the LFP Network Representative at your Undergraduate Institution. To find the names and contact information for your campus representatives. LFP National Network Campus Representatives must submit up to three nominees for the 2011-2014 Program no later than November 19, 2010.
Finalists must attend an Interview Conference on April 8-10, 2011 (overseas applicants please contact us). Fellows must attend an Inaugural Conference on August 1-4, 2011. The LGFP will cover all expenses for these events. Final selection of the Lilly Graduate Fellows is made by a selection committee and Lilly Fellows Program staff. Fifteen graduate fellowships will be awarded.

Once nominated, eligible candidates must fill in the electronic submission form below and submit Undergraduate transcripts and two letters of recommendation no later than January 21, 2011
